Frequently asked questions

What types of therapies do you use?

Depending on the client and their issue, I will draw on a variety of ways of working. These tend to be Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance commitment Therapy, Solutions focused, and Narrative. Motivation Techniques. Above all, Client-Centred.

What about confidentiality?

What is discussed in the counselling sessions is private and confidential to you and myself. I see this as being fundamental to the Counselling relationship. The exception to this is if I think you may be at risk to yourself or others, in which case I would need to, while informing you, bring in others to support you.
In line with best counselling practice, I take aspects of my work to a supervisor in order to have another professional perspective. Your anonymity is respected throughout this process.

I am really anxious about coming to Counselling. I’m not sure I can do it.

I always work at the client's own pace. If you are anxious we can work very gently and slowly. We can discuss this on the phone first if you would like to.

I am worried about being judged.

I have a deep respect for other people and their particular view of the world. I do not expect you to share my personal values or opinions, and I will work respectfully with yours. A non – judgmental approach underpins my counselling.
